Writer/Filmmaker Brenda Keesal

Writer/Filmmaker Brenda Keesal follows her own road. Her wickedly funny, emotionally-charged work introduces a bold voice to every screen. Brenda’s first film as writer/director/producer was WANKER; the story of a young man who takes his life into his hands. It won a Silver Plaque at the Chicago Film Festival, was the Closing Film of the New Orleans Film & Video Festival, garnered cult status and rave reviews and was voted one of the best movies of the year in Canada.

Her second, the polarizing, critically-acclaimed JACK & ELLA- a Jewish woman and a black man move in together and are invaded by their neighbors- played in festivals all over the world, enjoyed sold-out runs in Toronto and Montreal and still plays on Canada’s top movie channels and Roger’s On-Demand.

Voted one of Montreal’s favorite filmmakers, Brenda is currently juggling multiple internet, TV and film projects, busting it out with her signature style. Her work includes: A FINE FAMILY- a brave comedy about a nouveau-riche Jewish family who wheel and deal with God to get more out of life; FAT LIKE ME- a super-sized family try to revive a dying deli; and SENIOR HIGH- a hot-blooded comedy about living before you die. Her latest feature film BE HAPPY is being produced by Toronto uber-producer Avi Federgreen.

Brenda graduated from Bialik High School- the notorious breeding ground for Jewish professionals and funny people, and the prestigious Concordia University Film School with a BFA in Film Production, a minor in Creative Writing, and a vision all of her own.

  3. I have pages of poetry from our days of Madame X,Y & Z….I have stories you wrote and gave to me bound in rough string and sky blue paper. Now I can read your writing on your blog. Turn that phrase Brenda like only you know how.

Great to meet you over the weekend. Great blog! I wonder if Jack & Ella is available at zip.ca… the video stores out here lack, um, variety.
